Understanding Waterproof Ratings in Magnetic Watches
シェア
When shopping for a magnetic ball watch, you'll often see waterproof ratings listed as '3 ATM', '5 ATM', or 'water resistant'. Understanding what these ratings mean is crucial for protecting your investment and ensuring your watch performs well in various conditions.
What Does ATM Mean?
ATM stands for 'atmospheres' and refers to the pressure a watch can withstand. One atmosphere is equivalent to the pressure at sea level. However, these ratings don't directly translate to diving depths—they're more about the watch's resistance to water pressure in everyday situations.
Common Waterproof Ratings Explained
3 ATM (30 meters): This rating means your watch can handle splashes, rain, and brief immersion in water. It's suitable for handwashing and light rain, but you should remove it before swimming or showering. Many of our fashion-forward magnetic ball watches feature this rating, making them perfect for daily wear with basic water protection.
5 ATM (50 meters): Watches with this rating can handle swimming, showering, and water sports. This is the sweet spot for most people who want a watch they don't have to worry about in everyday water situations. Our EUTOUR E024 and many DOM models feature this higher rating.
Water Resistant: This general term usually indicates basic splash resistance but isn't as specific as ATM ratings. If you see 'water resistant' without a number, treat it similarly to 3 ATM.
Protecting Your Magnetic Ball Watch
Even with waterproof ratings, there are some important precautions to take. Avoid pressing buttons or adjusting the crown while the watch is wet, as this can allow water to enter the case. Hot water can damage seals, so remove your watch before hot showers or saunas, even if it's rated for water resistance.
Salt water and chlorine can be corrosive, so rinse your watch with fresh water after ocean swimming or pool use. Regular maintenance, including seal checks every year or two, will help maintain your watch's water resistance over time.
Choosing the Right Rating for Your Lifestyle
If you're primarily wearing your watch in office or casual settings with occasional exposure to rain or handwashing, 3 ATM is perfectly adequate. For active lifestyles involving swimming, water sports, or frequent water exposure, opt for 5 ATM models.
Our collection includes both ratings, ensuring you can find a magnetic ball watch that matches both your style preferences and practical needs.
